The floor must meet many of our expectations: be functional, beautiful, durable,
and have a well-finished surface.
It is also worth checking whether the most beautiful floor we have chosen can be installed in:
– a room with underfloor heating,
– how thick is the wood layer in the case of a multi-layer floor,
so that it can be sanded several times in the future, if necessary in rooms with
high traffic intensity (around the kitchen, i.e. the living room, or around the stairs).
The final appearance and durability of the floor are determined, among other things,
by the way it is finished. Preparations such as varnish, oil, wax, and lye can preserve and enhance the natural
color and appearance of a wooden floor or completely change it. Choosing a finishing material
for the floor is not easy. In order to do it right and not be irritated later
by the need for more frequent than expected or more burdensome maintenance,
it is worth knowing in advance the advantages and disadvantages (and prices) of all available preparations.
